Aging in Place: 6 Great Ways to Stay Healthy

Most of us consider ourselves to be pretty independent when it comes to our choice of living arrangements. As a Baby Boomer (born between 1946 and 1964), I have proactively been keeping up with information and strategies for aging in place. My husband and I are physically active (cycling, swimming, walking, weight training) and try to keep our minds actively engaged.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines aging in place as “the ability to live in one’s own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level”.

However, time marches on, and we know that certain “checkpoints” for healthy and safe aging in place need to be taken seriously. Especially if you live alone, these checkpoints are mandatory.
