Mental Health is Vital to Our Overall Health: May is Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month:

Don’t Let the “Stigma” of Having Emotional Issues Keep You and Your Loved Ones from Seeking Vital Health!

There will come a time when we all will suffer with some form of mental distress. Whether temporary or permanent, having mental health awareness is critical to taking care of our emotional health, and in turn, taking care of our overall health!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. The National Alliance on Mental Illness has an excellent site that deals with providing much-needed education and resources for the public.

Also, MentalHealth.gov provides an impressive introduction plus other tools on the subject, “What is Mental Health?”.

So many of us are reluctant to discuss this issue with others – let along admit it to ourselves – that we may need help. Today, there are so many available resources (free and fee-based) to assist us and our loved ones with seeking appropriate help!

The current COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the crisis of mental health issues, especially with our children. It is critical that we don’t “bury our heads in the sand” because we don’t want to acknowledge that children do indeed need help with sorting through their emotions! As parents, teachers, relatives, neighbors, etc., we need to educate ourselves on this important topic.

The U.S. Federal Government’s website, Youth.gov, offers a wealth of resources to educate you on various topics related to the specific emotional needs of children. I encourage you to also share this website with others.

Finally, one of the most important aspects of mental health awareness for everyone is fighting the stigma of having mental health issues. For far too long, we have been taught that having mental health challenges is a taboo subject.

I challenge all of us to lay this stigma to rest. If you or someone you know is suffering with mental health challenges, be proactive in seeking help!

It starts with educating ourselves on the signs of mental distress. I invite you to start with the Center for Disease Control’s website that focuses on mental health issues. Take the time to read over these resources, bookmark the web page, and please share it with others. Together, we can help ourselves and others to have an emotionally balanced and abundant life!

  1. Hi! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this site? I’m getting sick and tired of WordPress because I’ve had issues with hackers and I’m looking at options for another platform. I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
